Nick Linkowski's Story

Nick has been developing a 3-D model of the rotating Sun with real solar surface images (e.g., synodic images) taken by satellites. See the screen recording of the rotating Sun simulated in Blender below.

With about 3 additional updates on the 3-D models, his model of rotating Sun can be used to teach the following important astronomical concepts.

• Differential rotation of the Sun (and all stars… stars do not rotate like a rigid body)
• Changing surface of the Sun (i.e., sunspots) due to the solar activity cycle
